The Story Behind: “Angel Reach”

Written in 2012 and released in 2017, “Angel Reach” is my most cherished song because of the ministry that inspired it.

We had just moved to Texas and started attending a new church in The Woodlands.  My entire family was finding new ways to get involved; I was going through confirmation, my dad and brother were heavily involved in Boy Scouts, and my mom began volunteering at a nonprofit organization called Angel Reach.

Angel Reach is “a faith-based nonprofit organization that helps children and youth between the ages of 16-24 achieve their full potential in spite of the obstacles placed on them by broken families and a broken system.”  Their goal is to “engage, empower and support these youth in gaining the skills and experience needed to become self-sufficient adults.”

When I was younger, my mom came home with new miracle stories after every volunteer day.  I was so inspired, and proud to be her daughter, that I sat down at the piano bench, at thirteen years old, and started writing.  At the time, their motto was the Bible verse, Isaiah 42:16

“I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them.”

I believe it describes their organization perfectly, emphasizing on how God has a plan for their lives by giving their pain a purpose and using their stories for the Kingdom.  I took Isaiah 42:16 and all of the miracle stories my mom shared with me and turned them into a song.

Since then, I have had the opportunity to perform “Angel Reach” at every one of their graduation ceremonies since 2012.  It is my favorite performance of every year.  My mom still volunteers at Angel reach and continues to share the countless miracles and answered prayers that she has witnessed.  This song will always be a special connection between me and this ministry.

I recently had the opportunity to be a Spotlighted Artist on Jadyn Christian’s Music Blog, my friend and fellow classmate.  She featured me as a new artist and conducted an interview about my song, “Angel Reach.”  Be sure to check the interview on YouTube, or read about it on her Artist Spotlight.
